Friday night I got the Awesome Babysitter and Tim headed out for a date. We had dinner at Coopers Tavern, which was okay. It was very crowded and Tim hates closed in people. Then we went and saw Chronicle because it was the only decent movie we could agree on. The packed theater was well behaved and the teenagers behind us summed it up with “How bout that?”

Saturday we ran some errands and bought a new set of luggage at the “new” JC Penny, which honestly doesn’t seem that different yet. It is a nice red set and comes with four bags and a tolietry bag. We were not able to find a back pack for each of the girls because it was late and they were melting down. Not to mention, backpacks are out of season and we are going to have to order it online. Neeners is afraid of electric toliets and has taken to just holding it when we are out and about. Even when I show it has a normal flusher, she will have nothing to do with it until we are ready to leave and I flush. Then she says “I am not afraid Mommy. It’s a normal potty!” If I ask her if she wants to go, she says no. Oy boy, that is going to be a fun thing for the flight.

Sunday Tim spent several hours buying the tickets on the phone because Obitz was being a jerk. But we got them! T-Minus 17 days. Oh I forgot to mention how Friday was stress filled because we had to get more photos taken for our visas, and then have everything FedEx’d by the end of the day. All of this with Soren and a trip to the City Hall to get a real copy of our marriage certificate. I was sure that we had a real one, but darned if I could find it. Overall, it was several trips out of the house alone and/or with different kids. Anyway. Tim got an email on Monday saying he had forgotten one letter, and so he printed it out and FedEx’d it there, only to have them say the virtual copy would suffice. Sheesh. Fingers crossed we get it in time!

Oh yeah on Saturday we got part one of the insect repellent needed — the one for clothes. We need to order the low absorption 20% deet lotion along with the backpacks.

Saturday night I promised to go out with my friend Emily and we ended up going to the High Noon Saloon to see Natty Nation and some girl from American Idol out of Milwaukee. It was a strange night filled with young men. I have to confess, I am so glad I am happily married. The show was good and I hit my beer limit which meant that Sunday was spent lounging around the entire day and having the girls lay all over me. It was very nice to be attached to the couch and not have to do anything but watch TV and the hallf time show. We even ordered pizza to uh… celebrate the Super Bowl.

Monday … wait was today Monday. No today is Tuesday. Okay, so Mondy we registered Morella for 4K at the local elementary school that she will not be attending (they don’t offer it at this location). I hope we get our first choice, and I recognized a girl from Morella’s last ballet class, and suggested our preferences to her Mom. She said that she had no idea and would follow it because it would be good for her daughter to maybe know someone. I can’t say that Morella and the girl ever talked, but her Mom and I have so that has to count for something! After that we hit the bank and then I went to Michael’s to get some fake flowers and then to Savers to look around. I scored a Little People elaborate Tree House for $3.00.. I told the girls that it was the Cutie Mark Crusaders Tree house and they loved it. They played in their room for a long time this morning, after getting up at 6:00. Ugh!

Thankfully I got another hour or two of sleep before waking to feed them breakfast, get dressed and head out the door to what should become our weekly Tuesday play date. ;) Except for next week, when we celebrate Valentines Day by going to the Milwaukee Public Museum. We had a great time with the girls having sack races with the boys. After that I went to Target to shop for India supplies — new swim suits, aqua socks, and toiletries as well as lunch. By the time I got home, the girls were passed out. I brought them in and laid Neeners on the couch and Morella in her room where she rested. I was very surpised and happy to see a very colorful box on our front stoop from Sarah. I put it in the middle of the floor and went to lay down under a pile of covers for an hour to warm up and think/doze. The day was the coldest that it has been for weeks and I was underdressed for it. Plus, the kids were quiet…that is until Morella got bored and went to talk Tim’s ear off about all the things we got, especially their new water bottles, suits and water shoes.

It was a lovely Valentine’s and belated birthday care package with useful things for our India trip and a very decadent looking cake mix called Black Velvet that I fully intend on baking into adorable cupcakes tomorrow. Morella and Neeners helped unwrap everything and everyone was very well pleased. Thank you Sarah! I look forward to sending you my post-India package. ;)

Though it was a great day, I was thinking for the rest of the evening “When is bedtime?” I made a dinner of grilled cheese, soup and raw carrot sticks with ranch dressing. Afterward Tim played pretend with the girls while I cleaned their room. They had totally trashed it, and I am on a goal of trying to clean this place up before we leave. It it is nice in there — I wonder how long it will last. Finallly they went to bed and I retired to the couch to watch a little TV and drink a microbrew.

There you have it. The last couple of days. Tomorrow Soren is here and I plan on cleaning the kitchen, baking some cupcakes, relaxing with lots of coffee, and puttering. I am hoping the girls will want to play in their room a lot because they don’t like Soren getting into their things…which leaves me some free time. Okay I have to hold a baby for half of that, but baby carriers make it okay. ;) Plus the boy likes to eat and I am just amazed at occupied I can keep him by giving him food. Seriously, it is incredible.

Thursday is another playdate to make valentines with a Mom I haven’t seen in nearly two months. Drop some flowers off to a friend and later have Ho-Chunk language. Friday and beyond…until Tuesday is unplanned.

  1. Sarah says:

Hurray! I’m glad the wintertime gifts arrived safely. The girls’ things are sort of belated Christmas gifts, but why *not* some Valentine’s cheer instead, when they’ve been through all their other Christmas stuff? I hope the Black Velvet mix is good. I’d never heard of that before, and it looked sooo decadent and spooky. :-b

I can’t believe how soon India is coming up! In just…12 days? You’ll be there. The destination of my faantasies since I was about 13. I look forward to learning from your experience and insights.
