Athena claps!

Aha! One day shy of 8 months on the dot and my little girl learned how to clap. She clapped with glee and will clap when you ask her to clap. She had started to put the pieces together on Easter but nothing substantial. Then this afternoon, after her nap around 4:15 … sitting on the floor … she put her chubby little paws together and …well you get the gist. She was so proud of herself. It sure helped that Morella and I were proud of her too. :D Ahh, I like this milestone. It’s so cute.

Morella also reached a new milestone — being incredibly annoyed at having a runny nose. I missed the days where she leaked snot out her nose without a care in the world. Last night around midnight she started screaming “Nose wipe! Nose wipe!” Tim went in there and tried to deal with her dilemma. He gave her tylenol and then ended up sleeping on the floor a good portion of the night to keep her calm. To be fair, it wasn’t only her nose that giving her trouble, but the thunderstorm. Remember when she would sleep through lighting crackling mere inches from her window? Sigh. Then today, between wiping her nose and Athena’s I was regaled with the events of the night. How the clouds blew in. Rain came down from the sky. Morella was sleeping. Rain fell down. Clouds with thunder. Morella was sleeping. Yeah.

I was pretty proud of myself last night though for not giving Tim advice on what to do. We are reading a newfangled book called “Equally Shared Parenting” and one of the gists is that when one parent is doing their job, it not for the other (me) to henpeck and tell him how to do it. It was hard at first, but then I thought “If he wants my help he will ask for it.” Truthfully, he does get a little annoyed when I give unsolicited advice. In the end we all survived the night. He calmed Morella and she managed to sleep the rest of the night through.

I also feel like I am getting my evenings back, at least for the moment. After a few rough nights last week, Athena is now going to sleep in her cosleeper after her night time nurse and staying that way. She isn’t waking when we go to bed and wakes around 12 or 1 for her next feeding. I am not quite sure what happens after that because I am half asleep. Sometimes she goes back into her cosleeper, other times she’s snuggled next to me. I’ll have to keep a better eye on that and let you know, because I know you are just on the edge of your seat regarding this.

The major benefit to this is that I can leave the room right away. Tim has been doing his Wii fit while I am nursing her down. Then when he is done, I do mine. It helps so much that it’s all set out and ready to go. It’s hard to find excuses then not to do it. After my 30 minutes are up, I have been going to the computer to do a post. Wouldn’t it be great if I could do this every day? Now, I am going to log off the computer, make a cup of tea and do some reading for a 1/2 an hour. I have only one book actually finished from my goal of read 25 books this year. Or was it 20 books. Hm. Laima had sent me my resolutions but I already threw it away because someone started to eat it after it fell to the floor.

Uh oh, I hear thunder rumbling. I hope Morella is so exhausted from today that she will sleep through it. I have a feeling it would be my turn to hold a little hand tonight if she wakes up.

I love when they start clapping! The only thing more fun than clapping, is if you can get them to start blowing kisses. Those kisses can make a mommy feel like a million bucks.
