It was about 75 degrees today, but very windy. The wind didn’t really start until after naps though, so it didn’t bother us too much. This morning I got the kids dressed and out the door by 10:00. We walked to the library so I could pick up Passage by Connie Willis, based on a recommendation from a friend. While we were there I got three other books, randomly chosen from the shelves and a music CD of children’s folk songs that Morella might enjoy. Right now we have the soundtrack to Curious George’s first movie in the car and that is all can listen to. “Ooo Ooo Ahh Ahh mow-nak”
Okay maybe I’ll enjoy the change. We’ll see. I test drive it out in the morning as we are getting ready for Wednesday’s playdate. We are meeting at this awesome toddler friendly park that we had been going to after story time. However, story time is over until September so that they can focus on “school age children who need it more” so we are left to our own devices. There is a special event at the local library – Muffins for Mom, but I have a feeling it’s going to be as packed as the Toddler Dance party and I don’t want any of that. So I bought some muffins and will bring some juice packs and we’ll have our own Muffins even at the park. I am also bringing Bocce. It’s a wide open park, with toddler friendly equipment so this might be a little something that us adults can do other than stand around while the kids play. Plus, children learn from example right? This will teach them that adults can play games and have fun outside too.
Anyway. Library was good. After Morella uses the potty she has a new thing where if there is a water fountain, she has to have a drink. So far she’s doing pretty good at it. Athena needs to learn an inside voice. It was almost embarrassing her screech talking – and every time I shushed her, she smiled bigger and screeched just a little louder. Little stinker. Cute stinker..but stinker nonetheless.
After the library I stopped at Walgreens to buy a stainless steel water bottle, some graham crackers and sunglasses. I need to stock up on cheap sunglasses at the garage sales this year since I seem to always lose them or have them broken. We walked home and thankfully Athena fell asleep. I pushed us to the backyard and Morella and I had a picnic while Neeners snoozed. It was awesome. Around 2, Athena rubbed her eyes and I announced it was naptime for all. I knew Morella was getting tired. She seems to go down for a nap better if it’s because Athena needs it, instead of her. We all napped until 4:00.
Got up and had Morella watch Jack’s Big Music show while I got dinner started. Once that was over well went outside to play some more. My friend Emily and her son popped over for a little bit before leaving and I went over to poke at the garden. There are a bunch of ants that made a home in the left hand corner of the garden. Is this something I should get rid of? I can’t imagine it would be fun to garden there with a crapload of ants….maybe they will go away if I keep disturbing their home? Stupid ants.
Tim came home. We had grilled chicken and pineapple then went for an evening walk. We have been getting out of the house after dinner for a bike ride, or walk every day for the last week. I think it is the secret behind easy bedtimes.
Today is day three of Athena sleeping in her crib and it seems to be going okay. She goes to bed at 8:00 and after about 5 minutes of nursing will fall asleep. She tolerates me transferring her to the crib and sleeps until 11:00-11:30 when she needs to eat. I take her out, feed her (she eats a lot then) and then I put her back in the crib. It’s when she gets up at 3 or 4 that she stays in bed for awhile because I am too tired to put her back. I do eventually do that around 5 and sleep a bit more. So yeah, three days in and it’s better than I had hoped for…so far. I sort of wish that she didn’t need an 11 feed. It limits me going out to do things if I have to be back by then…Hm. The few times I have tried to delay it, she will keep crying because she is clearly hungry. Athena is offered three meals a day and various snacks. I think I need to be more consistent in making sure she actually eats something.
Anyway. I went to Woodman’s after she went to sleep to get some fruit and vegetables.
Also, Morella’s bottom two year molars are cutting through. She’s pretty crabby about it and not eating a whole lot, but at least we know what it is…and really she’s been worse. Thinking of the month of December in particular…oh that was rough.
Looks like we are going to be in for a bunch of thunderstorms tonight. I hope no one wakes up. On that note, I am off to take a shower.
